New werk (and older work)

New Werk! and older werk that i wanted to post. Two pieces which are three dimensional that were in Ayden gallery in Vancouver for 'Robots and Monsters' as well as an older mural piece and two paintings in progress

These pieces are from my most recent show at The Libra Room. In some I have started to combine the graphics from more recent work and the relief texture that I used in older pieces, some are actually additions to older work. The piece is with characters above is approx 25 x 60 painted in acrylic.

This piece above is painted on multiple panels attached together that are not in a uniform square or rectangle. As well they come forward and recede so that instead of just using found materials to create a three dimensional image, the surface itself creates this push pull effect.

The Board Exam

Here are some shots of a deck that I painted of a show in Toronto benefiting The Princess Margret Hospital. I was a good event from what I hear with a great turn out. I wanted to do something more scupltural for a while and spent some time trying to source out toy parts. luckily I could not find anything anywhere, which lead me to make the conclusion to just make them myself,

I think that this is the next step in the progression of this work and I will probably go fully 3-D in the next round. I was told the Deck did sell and I am happy to have contributed to the cause.

This is in the in between stage, sometimes I like the look of just the primed white surface with all of the texture added, just before it goes to paint. I think that this may be worth some investigation too.

These are photos from my latest series. This were on display at the Jericho Arts Center for about three weeks in the lobby, during the run of shakespears' 'Carolinus'. This is the first time that I named a show and had a theme in mind. I called it 'Eco-tone', the name of an area in which two distinct eco systems overlap. Its a good way to describe what I was trying to illustrate: the juxtoposition of industrial and information economies.

Orginally meant to be a picture of a burger n fries with all the fixin's, it changed a fair bit from what it was orignally meant to be. I let it sit while focusing on some other work. The logos came way later and the drips were an aesthetic chioce, but made sense in the end. people really seem to like it, which is funny because I cant figure out why so many people have an affinity with it.

These are some snap shots of a piece commissioned by the Peterson Investments Group. The client is an investment firm in conjunction with an architectural house. It is an image of the Shangri-La tower which they built in Vancouver. As it is the tallest building on the skyline, they wanted a piece of contemporary art for their lobby which encompassed the scope of their project but was also artwork beyond a just rendering of a building. I was lucky enough to be given free reign, which is a blessing and a curse at the same time. I was allowed onto the site to gather artifacts from the construction itself (which included a trip to the unfinished and exposed 62nd floor) and other elements such as diagrams and blue prints. It took approximately six months to come to this conclusion but by the time it was finished I was quite happy. There were several permutations and at one point there was so much going on in terms of architecture and decoration and red paint that any image was lost. I had never experienced having to paint over and steadily rework something that had taken so long. I eventually simplified everything and gave the image some breathing room. The building and the elements on the bottom portion are on raised panels, so the image is multileveled beyond just collage, it is the first time I did that and will not be the last.
